Surgical Procedures
The Basics
At Kiln Creek Animal Care we provide an array of surgical procedures. In addition to heart monitors, we have a number of licensed Veterinary Techinicians that help monitor each pet while under anesthesia and in recovery. We provide in-house pre-surgical laboratory testing to help reassure that each pet is healthy enough to withstand each procedure and that we have not missed any underlying health conditions that may not be present during a routine exam.
Preparation
Prior to surgery we ask that you feed your pet no later than 8 PM the night before. After that meal please do not feed them again (including treats!) until after their surgery. Water is okay. Please do not give them any medications the morning of the surgery (unless your doctor has told you otherwise) and drop them off between 7:30 and 8 AM that morning. Your doctor will contact you once the surgery is complete and tell you when you will be able to pick up that afternoon. For the feline families, declaw surgery requires that they stay at the clinic for 48 hours, but you are more than welcome to come visit.
Bloodwork Options
We always strongly recommend that bloodwork be done prior to surgery. Just like people, it is for the safety of the animal for the doctors to know of any pre-existing conditions. The pre-anesthetic testing reduces any potential risks and checks for protein levels, glucose, etc. We offer this option to all clients and make it mandatory for patients ages 6+. This bloodwork costs around $76.00.
We also strongly recommend extended pre-anestetic testing for certain breeds who are hereditarily at risk for hemorrhaging during surgery. These breeds include Doberman Pinscher, Golden Retriever, Scottish Terrier, Rottweiller, Standard Poodle, Dachshund, Bay Retriever, Bernese Mountain Dog, Pembroke Welsh Corgi, etc. This extended bloodwork costs $54.60.
